  1. Way to go! (on the numbers that is, not the illnesses)

My 14yo son's BMI is coming down...the pedi is happy, he's happy...his cholesterol will be rechecked in a few more months, although his wasn't too high...only 190 total, but with good LDL/HDL ratio. No high blood sugar or trygs...I love our pedi for being proactive, though, and not waiting until he has issues to help us!

We're working with a nutritionist who is so helpful and has a plan to make it so easy on all of us...it is a little different than what I think you are doing, though, as it is about eating low glycemic index w/ healthy fats and high fiber (I guess sort of similar to South Beach, but much easier to follow). As a side benefit, the mister and I are also losing a few pounds...

At some point, I might actually get around to blogging about it, and not just posting U2 videos. :-)

  2. wow that's great Lana! I'm really glad to hear that you guys are taking this head on. My brother's kids are just a little older than mine, 7 and 10, and they're also having to watch their diets as well. Our kids eat mostly what we eat, but its hard to deny them the things that they see other kids eating every day. I know that it can be a challenge.

Your kids are so lucky to have you watching over them. Starting these habits now just makes things routine, and will make for a better lifestyle down the road. Keep it up and blog about it too! Just another way to reinforce things...
